ALDERFIELDNOTESA SMALL OUTDOOR JOURNAL
COLLECTION Nº 01

ABOUT THIS JOURNAL

Curiosity, kept
close to home.

Alder Fieldnotes is a small independent journal about looking carefully at ordinary places.

A practice, rather than a destination

The journal brings together short essays, observation exercises, and original landscape illustrations. Its subjects are modest: a river edge, a fallen leaf, a patch of sky, or a familiar walking loop.

You do not need expertise to begin noticing. A useful note distinguishes what you saw from what you guessed, and leaves room for another visit.

Illustrated places

The artwork depicts imagined landscapes and simplified natural forms. It is not a map, a record of a named route, or a guide to identifying a species. Use it as an invitation to look at the real setting around you.

The limits of a field note

These pages offer creative observation practices. Route choice, access rules, equipment, weather, and personal safety need local information and your own judgement. A short familiar walk can be enough for every exercise here.

Begin with one page

Read the first-page note, choose a small subject, and give it a few minutes. Let the record be useful before you ask it to be beautiful.
